Frequently Asked Questions

How do I install a bundled Blender Add-on?

When you download Blender it comes with a whole bunch of Add-ons, some of which are activated and some not. Any such Blender-supplied add-ons do not have to be installed, instead, merely activated if you need one of them .

  • Click the Edit –> Preferences pull-down menus
  • Click the Add-ons button.
  • I suggest you always activate the Node Wrangler add-on – you will definitely need it when texturing. So let’s do so now:
  • Click the checkbox to activate it and the arrow symbol to configure it.
  • In the case of Node Wrangler there are no configuration options, but there is a useful button to the documentation of how to use the Add-on.

How do I install a 3rd Party addon?

    • Click the Edit –> Preferences pull-down menus
    • Click the Add-ons button
    Click Install
    • The Blender File View window appears. Navigate to your downloaded addon file. It will be a .zip file. Do not unzip this file. Just double-click it and Blender will install the addon.
    • After Blender has installed the addon, the Add-ons window re-appears and your newly installed add-on is listed. Click the checkbox to activate it and the arrow symbol to configure it.
